Under the baton of musical director Michael Tilson Thomas, the orchestra has reached new musical heights through its enthralling interpretations of classic Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, and Tchaikovsky. The orchestra takes on some of the most complex—and obscure—scores to appease classical music buffs, while also attracting a broader audience by  performing spirited renditions of movie scores and pop music.  

In 2006, The San Francisco Symphony celebrated 100 years of musical enlightenment. Just 5 years after the 1906 earthquake shook the city to its core, civic leaders decided to create the orchestra to help revive the arts scene. Since its first performances, the San Francisco Symphony continues to delight audiences with an eclectic and accessible mix of classical music for the San Francisco community. Of course, the symphony's music doesn't just falls on ears in the Bay Area; their performances are heard on over 300 radio stations across the globe.
