San Francisco's Chinese New Year Parade
Welcome in the Year of the Snake at the Southwest Chinese New Year Festival and Parade in San Francisco. Learn more about Chinese culture at the Chinatown Community Street Fair in the heart of Chinatown, where you can watch performances by Chinese acrobats, dancing lions and musicians, have your fortune told, buy Chinese gifts and festival souvenirs, and enjoy plenty of tempting Chinese food and treats. After a day at the Fair, stay for the popular evening Lunar New Year parade that features more than 100 participants, including Chinese lions, colorful floats, martial artists, popping firecrackers, Miss Chinatown USA, and the impressive 268-foot-long Golden Dragon puppet. The parade route begins at Market Street and takes a circuitous route to its final destination in Chinatown. The Chinese New Year Parade starts at 5:15pm (rain or shine) on Saturday, February 23rd and runs approximately 2-½ hours. The Chinese New Year Parade is free, however parade-goers can purchase reserved bleacher seat tickets for $30 each, plus $8 shipping. Bleacher seats for children under 2 are free. The Chinatown Community Street Fair is open Saturday, February 23rd from 10am-4:30pm and Sunday, February 24th from 9am-5pm and entrance to the fair is free.
