If you are planning a trip to San Francisco, you won’t want to miss the current de Young exhibit showcasing a stunning jewelry collection by Bulgari. This Italian luxury company has drawn its innovative inspiration from Greco-Roman classicism, the Italian Renaissance, and 19th-century Roman goldsmith techniques. Representing a landmark era in Roman culture, you can check out 150 unique pieces on display now through February 17, 2014.
The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond 1950-1990 tracks the Italian jeweler over the course of four decades. As an exclusive art show, you will even get a glimpse at the personal collection of Elizabeth Taylor. (Sophia Loren and Ingrid Bergman were other notable fans of this fine jewelry.) You can also take a look at the 1970s and ‘80s works that helped shape the Pop Art movement in the U.S.
You can check out this display at the de Young Museum from Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and on Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays but will be open on November 11. Admission is $20-$22 for adults and $10-$12 for youths ages 6 to 17. Special discounts are available for seniors and college students with an ID. Members and children 5 and under are admitted for free.
Come stay at our Union Square hotel for easy access to this popular attraction. The de Young shows off an artistic side right down to its architecture, a landmark building clad in copper and designed by Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron. Housing a number of eclectic exhibits and fascinating events, you’ll be sure to find something that catches your eye. Plus, this spectacular Bulgari collection just may inspire you as you’re gearing up for gift giving this holiday season.
